Guillaume Vallée
Experimental filmmaker, video artist and independant curator,Guillaume Vallée graduated from Concordia University with a Major in Film Animation and MFA in Studio Arts - Film Production option. He's interested in alternative forms of moving images in analogue forms as a way of considering the direct interaction between different mediums. His work is an exploration of materiality within the creative process. In attempts of creating a more complex relationship with his subject matter, Vallée makes use of cross-medium forms that range from camera-less techniques to optical effects, glitch, video feedback, using mainly Super8, 16mm and VHS, resulting in expended & hybrid pieces. His audiovisual performances have been shown in various festivals in Canada, USA, France and Japan (MUTEK, O.F.N.I., FICFA, Les Percéides, WUFF (...)) and his experimental films and videos, distributed by Vidéographe and Winnipeg Film Group, have been screened internationnaly. His short film, Le bulbe tragique, won the ''Best Canadian Work'' at WNDX (Festival of Moving Image) in 2016. In 2017, Vallée was an artist-in-residence at La Bande Vidéo (Québec, CA) and at Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains (Tourcoing, FR) and in 2018, at Signal Culture (Owego, USA) Hazy Montagne Mystique (aka Chittakone Thirakul) Chittakone Thirakul is a sound artist. His musical training was long self-taught and he is active in the experimental music scene since 2008 with different projects. He is constantly looking for new sounds and active communication with its collaborators. In 2010, he co-founded Jeunesse Cosmique, a music label that honors experimental music of all kind; pastoral freak, organic, field recordings, noise, jazz and electronics. It is from 2012 that he devotes himself to a space time to his personal project Hazy Montagne Mystique. A project that aims to be a sound vision of what is happening when he closes his eyes. He developed a sound universe from organic sounds (field recordings, cassette manipulation and amplification), analog sounds from vintage / modular synthesizers, and others from effects pedals that he uses as is or hacked. Inspired by a noise and experimental training, he creates a singular sound language that it shapes through hacking and the amalgamation of unique sounds and invented. The result is a pictorial music that he perceives as soundscapes, lunar moods or meditative sounds designed for underwater breathing. He performed in various festivals in Canada, USA, France and Japan and released more than 15 albums in various labels in Canada and around the world. |
