Gaelle Rouart è una filmmaker e performer francese, che lavora con la pellicola e con il cinema sperimentale sin dai primi anni ‘90.
Negli anni ha sviluppato diverse tecniche di alterazione e lavorazione sulla pellicola, unendo il processo di produzione e sviluppo dei suoi film a quello della proiezione, eseguita con proiettore 16mm, parte integrante ed estensione del suo processo creativo. Il suo è un cinema quasi organico, mai stabilizzato, mai davvero finito o conclusivo.


ANALOGICA 15 ospita un suo workshop in cui gli elementi centrali della sua pratica artistica saranno i punti di riferimento del laboratorio.

In questo laboratorio intensivo di due giorni, i partecipanti saranno guidati alla scoperta del cinema nella sua forma più pura, attraverso i suoi elementi fondamentali: movimento e luce.

Abbandonando le convenzioni narrative, si esplorerà la pellicola come esperienza diretta e sensoriale.

Il punto di partenza sarà il loop: piccoli frammenti di pellicola 16mm trasformati in sequenze ripetute, capaci di generare mondi infiniti di ritmi, pulsazioni e suggestioni visive.
La ripetizione diventa ritmo, e i gesti più semplici acquistano una forza ipnotica e musicale.


Centro del workshop sarà la tecnica del flat print, una copia diretta della pellicola che non subisce correzioni o filtri. Grezza, neutra, trasparente, questa pratica svela ogni dettaglio e imperfezione del materiale originale, permettendo di osservare come la sola combinazione di luce, movimento e chimica dia vita all’immagine in movimento.
Senza cineprese né strumenti di misura, ma soltanto con pellicola, luce, chimica e immaginazione, i partecipanti sperimenteranno il cinema nella sua forma più radicale.

Verranno usate pellicole in Bianco e Nero, ogni partecipente riceverà una copia digitalizzata della produzione nel mese di dicembre.

ANALOGICA 15 präsentiert einen Workshop mit Gaelle Rouart, mit den zentralen Elementen ihrer künstlerischen Praxis als roter Faden.

In diesem zweitägigen Intensiv-Workshop werden die Teilnehmer:innen – über seine Grundelemente Bewegung und Licht – an die reinste Form des Kinos herangeführt.

Jenseits erzählerischer Konventionen wird Film als unmittelbare, sinnliche Erfahrung erkundet. Den Ausgangspunkt bildet der Loop: kleine 16-mm-Fragmente werden zu wiederholten Sequenzen, die unendliche Welten aus Rhythmen, Pulsationen und visuellen Eindrücken eröffnen.
Wiederholung wird zu Rhythmus; die einfachsten Gesten gewinnen eine hypnotische, beinahe musikalische Qualität.

Im Zentrum steht die Flat-Print-Technik: eine direkte Kontaktkopie von Film zu Film ohne Korrekturen oder Filter. Roh, neutral, transparent legt sie jedes Detail und jede Unvollkommenheit des Ausgangsmaterials frei und macht sichtbar, wie allein das Zusammenspiel von Licht, Bewegung
und Chemie das bewegte Bild entstehen lässt.

Ohne Kameras und Messinstrumente – nur Filmmaterial, Licht, Chemie und Vorstellungskraft – erleben die Teilnehmer:innen das Kino in seiner
radikalsten Form.
Es wird mit Schwarzweißmaterial gearbeitet; alle Teilnehmer:innen erhalten im Dezember eine digitalisierte Kopie der entstandenen Arbeiten.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

An intensive two-day workshop focused on cinema’s essentials: movement and light. Stripping away conventional narrative mechanics, we reconnect with the tactile materiality of film.

Our main terrain is the loop: using short 16mm strips, participants build repeating sequences that, once projected, unfold into rhythms, pulses, and vivid sensory impressions. Central to the process is the flat print—a direct contact copy made without color or density corrections.
Raw and neutral, it reveals tonal shifts and imperfections, ideal for exploring how light, motion, and chemistry alone generate the moving image. Over two days we’ll print in loop-length fragments, moving from negative to positive and back with the simplest chemistry.

No cameras, no meters—just film, light, and collective imagination. Participants leave with unique loops to project and share.
PROGRAM

- Introduction to the workshop
- Differences between shooting emulsion and print emulsion
- What is b&w developer, reversal process. 
- Set up of the lab for flat-print. 
- Practice of flat-print and discover the enormous potential of creativity
  allowed by this process. 

- How to load a 16mm projector and screening. 

What we will do :
mostly copy-work, using flat print, hand processing & creative projection.
16mm films will be provided for use, and participants may bring their own 16mm reels if they wish.

GAËLLE ROUARD

GAËLLE ROUARD is a filmmaker, alchemist and performance artist.
Since the early 1990s, Rouard has been making handmade films, specialising in film processing.
She is a longtime member of Le 102, rue d’Alembert, a venue dedicated to diffusion and creation of experimental music and film.
Rouard also facilitates workshops in different contexts, from art schools to individual teaching. She develops and explores various methods of chemical processing of film.
With performances around the world, she experiments with the possibilities of live multi-projection, both in collaboration with various people and in solo acts. Rouard led the do-it-yourself film lab Atelier MTK in Grenoble for 12 years, until 2006.
