TOWARD A FUNDAMENTAL THEORY OF PHYSICS by Victor Van Rossem

TOWARD A FUNDAMENTAL THEORY OF PHYSICS
by Victor Van Rossem
16mm / 2025 / Belgium / 12’ 48’’

Toward a fundamental theory of physics is an experimental short shot on 16mm film using a handcrafted Time-Slice camera with 293 lenses—a modern reconstruction and reinterpretation of the original device built by Tim Macmillan in the early 1980s. The title refers to the “Theory of Everything”, the holy grail of physics, a single law that would unify the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. It’s a quest in which every step forward also feels like a step backward: to know more is to understand less, a paradox that also characterises artistic creation.
As in physics, time and light are fundamental to film, and this short offers a unique, tactile study of both elements: time as the sculptor, and light as the sculpted.

ENTER ASUNDER by Francesco Coppola in collaboration with Salome Wu

ENTER ASUNDER
by Francesco Coppola
in collaboration with Salome Wu
35mm / 2025 / UK / 4’ 23’’

A balletic stop-motion performance reimagines the genesis story of humanity. Each frame of the film is printed on agar seaweed, a medium whose physical memory introduces material decay and echoes cinematic film grain. This degradation interacts with the film’s exploration of identity, performativity, and the set-of-behaviours behind the masculine~feminine archetypes.

WHEREVER STREET PIECE by Panu Johansson

WHEREVER STREET PIECE
by Panu Johansson
16mm, found footage /
2024 / Finland / 8’ 49’’

“Wherever Street Piece” is a found footage film that describes impersonal and fragmented memories that cannot be directly linked to the life of one particular individual. Simultaneously the film documents the way these past realities – forgotten people in forgotten situations – blend together from the perspective of the present. Obviously not everything can be stored and passed on, but if we neglect the lessons of the past, are we also bound to repeat its mistakes?

RED EARTH BLACK EARTH by Agnès Perrais

RED EARTH BLACK EARTH
by Agnès Perrais
16mm / 2024 / France / 7’

Four motifs of an insular landscape: dunes, grass, stormy skies, sea. These motifs are inflected and intertwined through various photochemical operations: successive printing generations, flat printing, bipacking, and chemical toning; unsettling the steady, desolate shots to create an imaginary landscape where elements and matter meet.

LE TEMPS DU MONDE FINI COMMENCE by Sophie Bouloux

LE TEMPS DU MONDE FINI COMMENCE
by Sophie Bouloux
16mm / 2025 / France / 2’ 57’’

Inspired by a quote from Paul Valéry, the time of the finite world begins, explores the end of a world once believed to be inexhaustible. Through archival footage from the 1950s, taken from the 16mm film, Pleasure for All by the National Film Board of Canada, an era of triumphant modernity where humans reshape the earth as if it were a playground, the film subtly reveals the early signs of a coming shift. By intervening directly on the film stock, scratching it, testing it, the cinematic gesture becomes a metaphor: that of a wounded, altered world, marked by human traces.
This film is a visual meditation on finitude, on the growing awareness that everything has a limit: the land, time, bodies. Between memory and material, play and disappearance, the time of the finite world begins, confronts us with our legacy and the urgent need to see it differently.
