‘HOW AM I FERMENTED’ consists of three b/w films, each developed in separate batches of photochemistry made with sun-fermented plant infusions.
Bioregional memory unfolds in fermentation jars. wild yeasts and molds grow, odor, texture and color changes, complex structures are forming, microbes invisibly working. Like our identities, shaped beneath the surface, silently absorbing unspoken absolutes.
In “South Tyrol” or “Alto Adige”, an alpine region between Italy and Austria, borders, languages, and cultures have overlapped throughout history. under fascist dictator Benito Mussolini’s forced Italianization, culture and languages were suppressed and erased. the region’s multifaceted identity only survived through silent resistance, a story of preservation, decay and transformation.
