Imagine finding an old film reel from the past, dated 2050. Instead of images of a thriving natural world, you uncover a decayed record of an altered landscape.
Sunlight filtering through trees is marred by bubbles and white blooms. Crashing ocean waves appear cracked, wrinkled, and blotched. Nothing is as we remember it. The environment we once knew has become a fading memory, aging, deteriorating, and uncertain. Was it ever real, or was it only a dream?

Leyla Mandel is an emerging visual artist and filmmaker. She is a recent graduate from Tufts University where she received a BFA in film and a BA in political science.
Her work explores the fragility of memory and loss in the wake of accelerated climate disaster. In her films she attempts to bring the abstract idea of climate catastrophe into intimate focus, connecting large-scale disaster to personal loss. She is currently studying montage at the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
