Holiday
by Azucena Losana 2' 06'' / 16mm / Mexico / 2021 The electromagnetic landscapes of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro go on an irregular basis and it is possible to see what's outside the frame. This image hacking its connected to the poem "E se Jesus fosse preto" (And if Jesus was black) from the brazilian poet Bruno Negrão, who proposes a new way to imagine some of our ingrained beliefs. |

Billionaires Gnaw Their Tongues
From The Pain by Matt Soar 3'10'' / 16mm + 35mm / Canada / 2021 Billionaires Gnaw Their Tongues From The Pain aka Lost Leaders #22 (2021) is another handmade short created in collaboration with sound artist Jackie Gallant, drummer for Montreal band Lesbians on Ecstasy. Billionaires... combines 16mm and 35mm ‘found’ footage, hand-woven elements, bits and pieces from the earliest days of the Lost Leaders project, and DIY frame-by-frame scanning using a Lego-modded lightbox. |
The film is ‘inspired’ (read: rocket-fueled) by the hideous spectacle of the richest men in the world pretending to be astronauts. It must take a fuck-ton of hubris to strut around like latterday space ‘pioneers’ (Ray-Bans, leather bomber jackets, exceedingly white teeth) while the world burns.
Matt Soar's (Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal) hand-made films are affective responses to regressive cultural politics. Grounded in a deep admiration for the rich histories of avant-garde filmmaking, Soar's films are also a tactical retreat from the digital dogma of 'new' media production tools. |

Building an Edge
by Britany Gunderson 4' 10'' / 35mm / Usa / 2021 Created alone in the desert, imaginary structures are built and destroyed through seeking out the edges of an unknown landscape. We keep finding ourselves at the center of something. Shot on a LomoKino, 35mm to digital |

Enchantment
by Chiara Caterina 20' / 16mm + super8 / Italy / 2021 The voices of five women gradually fill the sound space of the film, weaving a pattern: a tarot card reader; a woman surviving one of the most horrific cases of sexual violence and homicide in Italy in the 1970s; a woman accused of the homicide of four people; a woman who's obsessed with the idea of death while another seeks an answer to violence through religious practice. These voices bring out, in different ways, the relationship to life through the discourse of death. |
After completing a degree in film studies in Rome university and a diploma in cinematography Chiara Caterina (1983) attended a post-degree in Le Fresnoy - Studio National des Arts Contemporains in Lille (FR).

Great Wall of Poland
by Aga Jarząb 2' 50'' / 16mm / Poland / 2021 Building walls along lines on the map is the perfect way to do politics by managing fears. That is why the fairy tale about the Great Defensive Wall On The Border is still told and still eagerly listened to. This film is an expression of anxiety about living in a restricted space. High walls with musty air inside - it is easy to suffocate in an airtight container. The more the wall protects me, the more I feel trapped. Surrounded from the inside. |
Aga Jarząb is a filmmaker, animator and graphic designer, born in Wrocław, Poland in 1977. Since 2014 she has been working with Maciek Baczyk in a duo kinoMANUAL. Together they create films and performances, which are shown at many animation festivals all around the world.
She works closely with the Pin Park music band, creating music videos and performing live. She is also a co-founder of the herbal-artistic duo „Panny Dziewanny”, in which she turns flowers and herbs into cosmetics as well as animated films. |
